Laura Dapkus, owner:
I have been writing and designing print and electronic communications for most of my adult life.
Before launching my own business in 2004, I managed intranet and extranet projects, created communications pieces and trained software users at Texas Instruments. My internal clients included everyone from computer novices to people with advanced engineering degrees. This experience made me sensitive to keeping designs simple, intuitive and tailored to the audience.
Our office is on Main Street in Van Alstyne, a small town North of Dallas. Van Alstyne’s population is listed at a little more than 3,000, but we are located in one of the fastest-growing areas in the nation. This rapid growth has been a communications challenge for everyone, as governments and non-profits must adapt their services and outreach to meet the needs of a growing population. And, businesses need to connect with a constant flow of new residents and remind existing ones that they’re still here.
I have an English degree and an MBA from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. I wasn’t born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could! My favorite volunteer activity is fundraising for Grayson College, our local community college.
So, what is the deal with “Sheep Boutique?” I am a shepherd and there are actual sheep. The lamb in the logo is inspired by one of our favorite show lambs, Malia.
